How to know yourself? A great question that can be answered with this interesting personal branding tool. We are talking about the Uffe Elbak model, which gives us a really relevant vision of ourselves.
Delving into our true self is essential in today’s BANI environment. Knowing who we really are and what we would like to become, focusing on a purpose and designing clear objectives is key.

Uffe Elbak Model: How to know yourself?
Elbak, Danish politician, social worker, writer, journalist and entrepreneur was the creator of this method. Its objective is to project an introspective image of ourselves in order to better know our weaknesses and strengths. Thanks to this scenario, we can define improvement actions.
It is a model that asks us to score ourselves in 8 different areas with a grade from 0 to 10. With this data, a very visual figure is constructed that is a reflection of who we are. Thanks to this image, we can reflect on where we want to go in each of these areas.
The 8 areas of the Uffe Elbak model
I like to think of this tool as something that gives you creative freedom in its use. This means that the 4 axes can contain the 8 variables that we consider ourselves, depending on our need. That if, always in a contrasting way, to be able to create a visual map of great help.
For example, in the image we can see how in the 4 axes, 4 pairs of polarized variables appear, which are:
- Individual versus team
- Local versus global
- Body versus mind
- Form versus content
The idea is that you can create your own model and experiment. The tool is so versatile that it can also be used, of course, for marketing purposes. For this, I recommend this spectacular post by my great friend Álex Rubio, who tells us how to propose the tool with the 8 ps of marketing. In this case, Alex combines them in a non-confrontational way, creating a perfect image that helps us to analyze the situation.
